A stock exchange is a place or electronic platform where investors like traders, speculators, and stockbrokers buy and sell securities i.e. stocks, bonds, and other forms of financial instruments. A stock exchange generates liquidity to the investors which makes it an economic driver. Today’s stock exchanges offer an electronic platform for trading securities worldwide. The trading value of the leading stock exchanges is trillions of dollars worldwide. The stock exchanges subdivided the whole securities market into the primary and secondary markets. The Amsterdam Stock Exchange is the world’s first organized exchange in the 1600 century. Later the London Stock Exchange took the leading role in the world’s stock market. In the 21st century the New York Stock Exchange, the London Stock Exchange, the NASDAQ Stock Exchange, the Shanghai & Shenzhen Stock Exchanges, the Tokyo Stock Exchange, the Bombay Stock Exchange, etc. are the largest stock exchanges globally. In Bangladesh, the Dhaka Stock Exchange and the Chittagong Stock Exchange are playing a major role for decades.
